Holidays in a hire car: see Gran Canaria your way
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands after Tenerife and Fuerteventura. Gran Canaria is a popular all-year-round destination, with 2.8 million tourists coming there every year. One third of tourists arriving in Gran Canaria come from Germany, attracted in large part by the mild temperatures on the island in winter.
The Canary Islands are also known as the islands of eternal spring, thanks to the Canary Current that ensures moderate temperatures even in the summer. Experience this eternal spring in a hire car. Gran Canaria Airport is located 18 kilometres from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Just to get from the Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) to the capital makes a practical hire car from TUI Cars worthwhile as you can quickly pick it up from one of our car rental partner firms at the airport.
To the Venice of the South by car
If you stay on the GC-1 and pass Puerto Rico you will arrive at Puerto de Mogán. This fishing village is one of the largest resorts in Gran Canaria. From the airport it is some 53 kilometres away following the coast. You may prefer to detour to San Bartolomé de Tirajana just to get a better feel of the island inland. On this route too you pass Puerto Rico and arrive in Puerto de Mogán after driving about 135 kilometres. The fishing village is also called the Venice of the South and tempts tourists to stroll around its small streets and admire its postmodern architecture. Enjoy the island in a hire car. Gran Canaria Airport is the beginning of a memorable trip.
Flexible travel by car: Gran Canaria Airport is your starting point
For a relaxing holiday, the south of Gran Canaria is particularly popular. The lower half of the island has popular resorts such as Puerto Rico or Maspalomas, the venue for the international sports festival Blume Gran Canaria every November.
The towns and villages further inland are perfect destinations for day trips. A hire car gives you all the flexibility you need to customise your own itinerary. Gran Canaria Airport is located in the east of the island. In order to get from the airport to the beautiful south, a hire car is a good option, for example, it is only some 48 kilometres on the GC-1 to Puerto Rico on the southern coast.
