Mediterranean adventure: round trip in Corsica by car
One of Corsica's most beautiful panoramic roads runs from Calvi along the west coast to the small port of Galéria.
There are many spots where the winding road presents unique views of the azure water of the Mediterranean. On the route there are many places of interest, such as the caves of Veaux Marins or the chapel of Notre Dame de la Serra with the 2,700 metre-high Monte Cinto rising in the background.
Another excursion that you should not miss on your road trip in Corsica is the route along the east coast from the fortified town of Binofacio to Bastia in the north. On the way stop off at the picture-postcard beach of Santa Giulia.
A journey into the past – Corsica by car
How the first inhabitants of Corsica came to the island is not exactly known, but human presence in Corsica can be dated back to the Stone Age.
You can admire the testimony of these and later times at the archaeological sites of Cauria or Filitosa in the south of Corsica, easily reached by car.
If you rent a car for your round trip, you should also visit the monastery of Alesani and the birthplace of Napoleon in Ajaccio. The oldest settlement of the island is located in Alèria, a small village on the east coast. From your car rental office in Corsica you can reach most parts of the island via well-maintained country roads.
Col de Vergio – by car to the highest peak on Corsica
When you think of Corsica in your mind’s eye you usually picture the white beaches and blue lagoons of the island.
Most people are not aware that one of the most exciting road passes in Europe lies between Porto and Ponte Leccia. Below the peak of the sublime Monte Cinto the winding road meanders downhill through forests and heaths, past deep gorges, dams and reservoirs.
A tour in a hire car in the interior of Corsica is a welcome change for those who are not looking for a beach holiday. Drive through picturesque landscapes and charming little villages in a roadster, the ideal car for a road trip in the summer.
